Public companies leveraging their patent portfolios, (aka "patent plays"), are getting the market's attention. Companies such as Vringo (VRNG), ParkerVision (PRKR), MGT Capital (MGT), Worlds Inc. (WDDD.OB) and others have presented trading opportunities due to their volatility while retaining the chance for a big payoff to those investors who stay the course. Yet there exist viable patent plays that are still undiscovered. Some of these so called "plays," which are not getting enough attention, are actually real companies making and selling real products or services in contrast to pure patent monetization companies. Some known examples are Single Touch Interactive (SITO.OB) and Blue Calypso (BCYP.OB). This article is focused on another one of these patent plays, On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTIV).

One under-$10 technology player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a major breakout trade is On Track Innovations (OTIV), which designs, develops and markets contactless microprocessor-based smart card solutions to customers in Africa, Europe, the Far East, the Americas and Israel. This stock has been red hot over the last three months, with shares up a whopping 134%.

If you take a look at the chart for On Track Innovations, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways and consolidating over the last month and change, with shares moving between $2.70 on the downside and $3.74 on the upside. Shares of OTIV have now started to spike higher off some near-term support at $3 a share and it's quickly moving within range of triggering a major breakout trade above the upper-end of its recent sideways trading chart pattern.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in OTIV if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $3.74 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 626,538 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then OTIV will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $4.50 to $5.50 a share.

Traders can look to buy OTIV off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits just below some key near-term support levels at $3.20 or at $3 a share. One can also buy OTIV off strength once it starts to clear its 52-week high at $3.74 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

10 Best Supermarket Stocks To Watch For 2014

We don typically think of the low-priced stock universe as a haven for income plays, but Ie picked up a few nice ones in the past, including MCG Capital (MCGC) and RAIT Financial Trust (RAS).

Today, lets look at two more, one from a sector often associated with income and another surprising choice.

The latter is upper-Midwest supermarket operator Roundy (RNDY), which comes our way via the Low-Priced Insider Buying screen and presently yields about 5.4%.

With margins in this business typically being razor thin, investors tend to assume staying afloat and battling Wal-Mart persistent expansion into grocery would preclude executives from giving a moment of thought to dividends.

Actually, though, the business can be quite profitablees, margins are thin but turnover tends to be very highnd Wal-Mart, as powerful as it can be, isn the end-all and be-all of everything. RNDY definitely feels a competitive pinch, but its efficient operations allow it to come closer to Wal-Mart prices than most other local rivals.

InterActiveCorp (IACI) bought Ask.com for $1.85 billion in 2005. The new Perion will be worth only about 40% of that. After the merger, Perion will leapfrog its much larger rivals: Babylon and AVG (AVG). Finally, Perion should be able to increase its operating margins as it can spread its SG&A costs over a much larger base (Conduit EBITDA margin is 32% vs. Perion's 23%). Perion will keep its senior management team intact: Josef Mandelbaum will remain its CEO and Yacov Kaufman its CFO. Perion has successfully orchestrated a roll-up acquisitions of privately-held Sweetpacks and Smilebox, so I have high confidence that they know how to integrate a new business.

Best International Stocks To Own For 2015

Trading in the Chinese yuan has picked up significantly in recent years.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) The Chinese yuan was the ninth most traded currency in the world in the most recent ranking by the Bank for International Settlements, the first time the currency has broken into the top 10.

The Chinese government has traditionally worked to keep the currency pegged to the dollar as a way of promoting manufacturing in its export-driven economy. That has prompted charges by critics that it is involved in currency manipulation.

Pressure from other nations has led the Chinese government to allow more movement in the value of the yuan in recent years, which in turn has increased the trading activity.

The currency was involved in 2.2% of foreign exchange trading worldwide in April, the period examined by this week's report. That's more than twice the share of the foreign exchange trading it participated in April 2010. The dollar was involved in 87% of all trades, the euro was part of 33% of trades, and the Japanese yuan was involved in 23%.

Oh, both GEVO and ENTB are generating sales, but both are consistently taking losses. That's ok though, as for both companies right now, profits aren't really the point - it's the pipeline that matters.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

First up is $25 billion eyewear stock Luxottica Group (LUX). Luxottica has posted some solid performance year-to-date, rallying more than 28% since the calendar flipped over to January. But this stock looks downright toxic right now. Here's why.

Luxottica is currently forming a bearish price setup called a descending triangle. The pattern is formed by a horizontal support level below shares at $51 and downtrending resistance to the topside. As shares bounce between those two technically significant price levels, LUX is getting squeezed closer to a breakdown below that $51 price floor. When that happens, we've got our sell signal in this fashion stock.

Declining volume over the course of the setup in LUX adds some confirmation to the trade, but the downtrend in relative strength is the real problem in this chart. LUX has been underperforming the broad market horrifically in the last quarter, and a move through the $51 level would sap a lot more buying pressure from shares.

If you still own LUX, look for that sell signal as your exit.

For now, I continue to recommend investors maintain a cautious stance, focusing on the buying interest coming into safe-haven assets like U.S. Treasury bond and precious metals while booking profits in biotech stocks that have been red hot this month. The leveraged Direxion 3x Treasury Bond Bull (TMF) is up nearly 7% in my Edge Letter Sample Portfolio since it was added on Jan. 10. I just sold Tower Hill Mines (THM) and Rosetta Genomics (ROSG) for gains of 46% and 18% respectively.

    The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), Molina Healthcare met expectations on revenues and crushed expectations on earnings per share.

If you want a ray of sunshine in this mess, look no further than either WellPoint (NYSE: WLP  ) or Molina Healthcare (NYSE: MOH  ) . Both companies have a stronghold in California with WellPoint's Blue Cross Blue Shield and Molina's low-cost and Medicaid-sponsored plans offering ample choices in the early going for consumers. Although early enrollment in California was disappointing, the expectation all along has been that it would pick up as we get closer to coverage enrollment cutoff date. With few signs of exchange problems in California I'd look for these two companies to impress investors moving forward.

Although the company is overly relying on Afrezza, there is to say that MannKind has inked some deals in the recent past. These were primarily aimed to furthering its pipeline development but with less risk and with less research and development expenditure directly for the firm. In November, 2012 it signed a license agreement with Colby Pharmaceutical Company granting the latter exclusive rights to its early stage cancer program. Currently, the firm is also looking for partners regarding Afrezza. Last year in July, it entered one with Deerfield that ensured financing worth $160 million for MannKind. Also, in October 2012, the company raised $86 million (net) through the issuance of shares and has almost $120 million left under its credit facility. This has removed some concerned about a financial crisis in the company, although it hasn't done so throughly.

Best Consumer Stocks To Buy Right Now

The Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) hype machine is in full gear, and the first trades are now indicating $45, up 73% from the $26 pricing last night.

If the stock market were a pinball machine, it would read "tilt."

Twitter's gross revenue is slowing. It's up only 6.1% in Q3 2013 from a year ago versus 10.6% in 2012 and 17.1% in 2011.

Net losses are also growing. The company reported a net loss of $133.9 million Q3 2013 versus a loss of $70.7 million in Q3 2012.

The user base is only 232 million a day versus Facebook which is running north of one billion. This may not be a big enough customer base to support the advertising that everybody thinks is going to propel Twitter to stratospheric levels.

The demographic is skewed. Facebook is arguably balanced across a much wider demographic. Twitter is young people and small emerging markets where there's very little consumer spending power.

And finally, Wall Street has valued the Twitter IPO at $26 in an effort to avoid getting "Facebooked." Yet, European pre-IPO warrants trading the night prior to the opening suggest a range of $37 to $45 a year from now.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Kyle Woodley]

The short, sucky answer? A lot:

Plans for a igafactorymeant to produce millions of electric-car batteries ginned up excitement, but also raised eyebrows. The Wall Street Journal reported on skepticism in the space — including from heads at Volkswagen (VLKAY) and battery maker Highpower International (HPJ). Now, even planned investment partner Panasonic (PC) now sounds iffy on the project, with company Kazuhiro Tsuga saying “the investment risk is definitely larger.” Not good. There also was Tesla direct sales snafu. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie huffed and puffed and (on March 11) successfully blew down Tesla direct sales model, with the Motor Vehicle Commission approving a measure to enforce an already-existing ban on direct sales. On the flip side, Tesla has scored victories in New York and Ohio in the past month, and is making progress in Arizona (which has a little incentive on the board). Production of the Model X has been pushed further back, to 2015. Musk’s reasons — mostly having to do with focusing on bolstering Model S sales — are valid, but that doesn really soften the blow of a longer wait for the much-anticipated addition to Tesla line. To address the issue of battery fires in the Model S, TSLA added titanium shields and aluminum deflector plates to new vehicles and offered to install them for free in all its existing cars. Tesla margins are excellent, and there no hard number on the cost impact of the fix, but titanium ain cheap. This definitely isn going to add to Tesla bottom line. What Now?

I won belabor you with my bullish position on TSLA stock, but if you want, you can see it here. In short, Musk is a genius; Tesla products are quality and appeal to (and are priced for) the all-important luxury segment; and just given size and scale, TSLA has oh-so-much room to grow.
