It been a tough year for emerging markets, with only a few exceptions (Philippines, for instance.) Whether these growth markets do better next year is anybody guess. Investors might have to wait until the smoke clears from Fed tapering, expected by the first quarter of 2014, and signs of life in the entire eurozone, rather than just Germany.
Michael Reynal, one of two portfolio managers at the $492 million RS Emerging Markets Fund (GBEMX), says he is not waiting for stronger tailwinds. Get this, Reynal fund has even loaded up on China Construction Bank. A bank. In China. Some might call that crazy.
But with China banks trading at just 0.6 times book value across the board, Reynal has his eyes set on the long haul. After all, if you don buy low, you buy high.
ere where I sit. I pretty comfortable saying that wee seen the bulk of the downside in emerging,Reynal told Forbes on Friday. The MSCI Emerging Markets Index is down 10.88% year-to-date. Even basket case Europe is doing better. Thanks to monetary stimulus, the MSCI Europe index is up 8.67%.

After five days of losses, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.6% to 15,928.56, while the S&P 500rose 0.6% t0 1,792.50, ending its three-day losing streak. The Dow got a boost from Pfizer (PFE), Visa (V) and General Electric (GE), while the S&P 500′s biggest winners included homebuilder DR Horton (DHI) and T. Rowe Price (TROW).

It's estimated that every single-family home built by the likes of D.R. Horton (NYSE: DHI ) and PulteGroup (NYSE: PHM ) generates between two and three sustainable jobs. In addition, an increase in demand for housing will presumably push home prices higher, which will reduce the number of underwater homeowners and thereby spur consumer spending. It is, indeed, a virtuous circle.

Donald Tomnitz, DR Horton (NYSE: DHI )
We're clearly raising prices on each and every one of our communities on a house by house, on a subdivision by subdivision basis ... We do have costs which are going up in some of our markets and with some of our subcontractors but clearly, our pricing power is exceeding the cost increases that we have today ...

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Charles Sizemore]
In the world of triple-net REITs, most of the attention in the past week has been on the planned merger of American Capital Realty Properties (ARCP) and Cole Real Estate Investments (COLE). I recently wrote about ARCP, noting that the REIT had seen heavy insider buying over the summer at prices higher than today. I also recommended the stock based on its growth prospects within a sector I love and its high dividend yield — 6.7% at today prices.
